We visited Brazil in August of 2024. Of all of the coffees we tasted in our visit, this one stood out amongst the rest. It's a variety specific, intentionally fermented natural process coffee from Luiz Paulo Pereira. Luiz Paulo is the owner of Carmo Coffees, a huge coffee exporter in Minas Gerais, Brazil. He has an experimental farm, Santuario Sul, where he grows new varieties and does research on coffee fermentation. This is a unique offering for us, as it's sort of a "celebrity coffee" coming from Luiz Paulo, a recognized coffee professional and trader. It is one of the most expensive coffees we've offered to date- which is justified in cup quality.
Widely known as the largest coffee producer by volume, Brazil also leads the world in coffee research and innovation. The production of coffee in Brazil influences the global market, and acts as the industry standard for quality and production. It's one of the only countries in the world that uses farm equipment for harvesting and processing, which creates consistent coffees year after year.
