Our first trip to Mexico was in 2018 just as Mexico was recovering from roya sweeping through the country in 2014. The fungal disease hit the country so hard it took years to recover through the use of disease resistant varieties and soil management. In 2018 the intention was to find a cooperative that we felt best fit our approach to supporting farms and developing quality. Since then we have purchased coffee from the Triunfo Verde Cooperative. Located in Jaltenango de la Paz in the Chiapas Region of southern Mexico, the Triunfo Verde Cooperative works with over 500 farmers who live in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas near the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve, one of the largest natural preservations in all of Mexico.
