Riverside Mill- Papua New Guinea

We travelled to Papua New Guinea in the fall of 2019 in hopes of learning more about the coffee and culture of PNG. We’ve been purchasing coffee from the Western Highlands for many years, and we’ve absolutely loved the profile and consistency of the coffees.

This offering is different. It comes from the Eastern Highlands and it doesn’t quite fit our flavor profile of the other PNG coffees. This one has more of an oat profile, with slight nutty sweetness to it.

It’s important to understand why we committed to this coffee though. In our travels to origin, we try to promote traceability through sorting and separation. When we were in PNG, we asked for more traceability in offerings, so we could eventually work towards relationships with individual producers, rather than a group of smallholders within a region. This coffee represents progress in sustainable sourcing and traceability.

Our roast profiles are intended to highlight the potential of the coffee and all that has occurred in the cultivation and process of the coffee cherries.

This coffee is roasted on a weekly basis to remain as fresh as possible. After roasting, the coffee is packaged and flushed to purge any remaining oxygen that could potentially degrade the quality.

We offer grind size options, but we always recommend buying wholebean coffee and grinding for your daily brews. Preground coffee loses its aromatics significantly degrades coffee quality. That said, a bad grinder is worse for extraction than preground coffee.
