Our first trip to Peru was in 2018. It was an exploratory trip, as we knew nothing about the area or coffee culture. We had heard of similarities to other countries, like Colombia, where farmers processed their own coffee and delivered parchment to exporters. This level of care in coffee generally leads to high quality cups. Once we arrived in Peru, we saw firsthand the quality potential and brilliance of the Andes Mountains in Northern Peru.
Our importing partner, Cafe Imports brought us to Cajamarca, Peru where we were introduced to their counterpart, LimCof in the small coffee town in the north of Peru called Jaen. Jaen is bustling during the harvest season, with moto taxis cruising around box trucks full of coffee. In the offseason, the streets are quiet and still as they await the coffee harvest.
LimCof organized a few tables of coffee for us to cup. They were remarkable. We committed to two specific lots of coffee that stood out amongst the rest. Those lots were from Augusto Calle and the Lopez’ Brothers. We fell in love with those coffees and have been purchasing coffee from these producers ever since. They are producers that continue to impress us and producers that we continue to visit and purchase coffee from.
We travel back to Jaen each harvest season to meet with our producers and select the fresh harvest of coffee. In our travels in 2022, we expressed interest in working with another producer who could help us fill our volume needs. LimCof introduced us to their good friend, and great coffee producer, Johner Delgado. Johner and his family produce hundreds of bags of high quality coffee.
We’re proud to offer traceable Peruvian coffee from farmers we know. All of the Cajamarca blend comes from the Delgados, Calle or Lopez brothers. Peru remains one of our most beloved origins and one we are eager to grow with in the future.
